Daniel (Danny) Powell is Vice President of BCI Strategy & Business Development at Blackrock Neurotech, where he leads strategic initiatives at the intersection of technology, business, and innovation. He is responsible for commercial strategy, business development, and partnerships related to Blackrock's next-generation neural interface technologies. Since joining Blackrock in 2021, Danny has led the company’s advanced technology business unit and secured over $13 million in non-dilutive funding from the NIH, DoD, and other federal agencies. He currently steers Blackrock’s commercial roadmap for Neuralace—a novel brain-computer interface platform—and oversees commercial strategy, application development, and external partnerships. He earned his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Utah, where he was named the College of Science’s Outstanding Graduate Student for his work on structure-function relationships in organic semiconductors. His academic background bridges deep technical expertise with strategic leadership in emerging technologies. Danny is currently pursuing Harvard Business School’s Certificate of Management Excellence to continue developing as an authentic and forward-thinking leader.
Kathy Tune is a Managing Partner with Capita3, an early-stage venture capital fund focused on women led healthcare startup founders and was a partner at Thomas, McNerney & Partners, where she led and managed portions of the investment portfolio. She has extensive community leadership involvement and serves on several non-profit boards, including serving as the immediate past chair of Gillette Children’s Hospital and serves on the University of Minnesota Discovery Capital Board. Kathy currently serves on the corporate boards of Marani Health, Inc., Electromed, Inc (NYSE American: ELMD), along with several additional private healthcare company boards.
Patrick Johnson, is currently serving as a Senior Regulatory, Quality & Compliance Consultant at Duval & Associates focused on advising clients on medical device, pharmaceutical and combination product regulatory and compliance topics. Patrick works with assisting clients with worldwide regulatory strategies, marketing submissions preparation and applications (FDA submissions including pre-submissions, 510(k)s, De Novos, PMAs, NDA, ANDA, advisory panel meeting preparation, etc.), quality system and compliance requirements, and issue resolution. Patrick has over 35 years of experience in working in the medical device and pharmaceutical industries.
Prior to joining DuVal & Associates, Patrick led the Regulatory departments for Medtronic Neuromodulation (medical device and combination products) and Paddock Laboratories (pharmaceuticals). He has extensive experience in product classification, strategy development, submission preparation, regulatory agency negotiations, advertising/promotional materials assessment, inspection/audit preparation and conduct, usability evaluations, risk assessment and recall decision-making, pre-clinical and clinical trial design, and in conducting compliance assessments.
Patrick earned his Bachelor of Science in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Minnesota Institute of Technology. Patrick has served as adjunct professor for the University of St. Thomas Regulatory Science Master’s degree program and is a US Air Force veteran.
